Vintage Valentine

Happy hump day! Hope your week is going well...we're halfway to the weekend! Woohoo!

Today's card is for a bunch of challenges:
CR84F--red, kraft, brown
Paper Issues--Valentines
A Passion for Papertrey--outside your comfort zone (I used cardstock & buttons from PTI.)

I went with a vintage look, which is definitely outside my comfort zone, but I like the result. I started with my new Hero Arts stamps, then found this paper in my stash & thought it was the perfect background for the typewriter.

A fun tip: As I was putting this card together, I realized the bright white of my ribbon really didn't go with the creamy cardstock, so I sponged some Creamy Caramel ink on top to age it a little. Can you see the difference in the photo? It's a small thing, but I think it adds to the overall vintage feel.

Hope you like it!

Stamps: Type (Hero Arts)
Paper: Real Red, Very Vanilla, PTI Kraft, Pink Paislee pp
Ink: Adirondack Espresso, Creamy Caramel
Accessories: Bazzill Basics ribbon, PTI buttons, SU linen thread, Nestabilities circles & scalloped circles

Fly

Hey, everyone! Happy hump day! It's been a crazy couple of days weather wise around here. We've had high winds and storms, which knocked out our cable & Internet connections (and no, I don't live out in the country either). I'm hoping it's up and running again soon...I missed Glee last night!

My card for today plays along with two challenges: Embellish magazine's vintage color challenge and Etsy Inspired #111.

When I first saw this color combo, I was stumped. Add in the fact that I don't do vintage, and yes, I had a true challenge on my hands.

Once I started searching around this week's Etsy shop, Stilettoheights, I began to think maybe I could combine the two challenges.

I chose this print as my inspiration.

I started with some Pink Paislee paper. It was already distressed, but I added my own touch by inking the edges and adding a few smudges.

I used a birdcage stamp I found in the dollar bin at Michaels, along with a couple of sentiments from another set. I added the pearls and ribbon to finish it off. For not being a vintage girl, I think it turned out okay.

What do you think?

Stamps: birdcage (unknown), Butterflies & Birds (Inkadinkado)
Paper: Lemon Tart, Pink Paislee pp
Ink: Garden Green
Accessories: May Arts ribbon, Kaisercraft pearls

Moxie Fab Vintage

I've been watching the Moxie Fab challenges from the sidelines, but after seeing Amy and Angie do so well, I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring. Of course, the challenge I chose to get involved in is called Find the Value in Vintage. My cardmaking style is anything but vintage...however, that's why they call it a challenge. Plus, I thought I might be able to do vintage with a CAS twist.

Here's what I came up with. This stamp reminded me of a vintage prom dress. I stamped it onto some vintage October Afternoon paper, then embossed it in black. I found this little white flower in my stash, and I squished it into my Pretty in Pink ink pad a few times to make it work. I outlined the whole layer with Cotton Candy Stickles.

So, what do you think? Is it vintage enough?

Stamps: dress (Inkadinkado), Mega Mixed Messages (PTI)
Paper: Kraft, Pink Pirouette, October Afternoon dp
Ink: Basic Black, Pretty in Pink, Versamark
Accessories: black ep, flower (Offray), Cotton Candy Stickles, dimensionals

Vintage Bird

Challenge #2 for my blogging group, Card Crazy Chicks, is Lauren's vintage challenge. I'm not a vintage girl at all, so this really was a challenge for me.

I used SU's Well-Worn Words on the background, then inked and distressed the edges. I added the tag (also inked and distressed), ribbon (the gingham was sponged with Chocolate Chip ink to age it a little), and this bird stamp from Inkadinkado. I added the hardware at the last minute because something seemed to be missing. Not entirely sure I like this one, but it's the best I can do with the limited vintage items I have in my stash.

Stamps: Well-Worn Words (SU), Birds Galore (Inkadinkado)
Paper: Chocolate Chip, Naturals Ivory, Kraft tag
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: circle punch, ribbon (SU & Hobby Lobby), hardware (Oriental Trading Co.), distressing tool, sponge
