Today's 365 Cards challenge was to create an acetate card. Cool, right? I bought some acetate a while ago and hadn't had the chance to play with it yet, so I was psyched. Note I said was psyched.Things started out okay. I saw Anthonette's card a couple of months ago and saved it in my CASE file. I love the way she used Nesties to do the layers. I don't like to make cards with messy-looking insides, so doing the layers this way allowed to cover all adhesive AND gave me a place to write a message without having it show through the front of the card.
The trouble began after I made the card. I could NOT get a good photo. I mean, I tried everything--different lighting, backgrounds, angles--anything I could think of. All my photos still looked like ****. At one point I looked like a jewel thief, donning a black hoodie and gloves to avoid seeing the glare of my skin in the card. This was the best one I could come up with. I've never been so pissed off after making a card in my life!
Anyone have any photog tips for next time? PLEASE share!

Accessories: acetate sheet (SheetLoad), Nestabilities labels 1, Martha Stewart classic butterfly punch, rub-on (SU), rhinestones (Kaisercraft)
LOL! Had to laugh at your photo woes! Actually it's not too bad, at least you can see the card. Lovely card too! It's much difficult to take photos of clear cards.

Oh my gosh! You had me laughing so hard with your description of being a jewel thief! I've heard those acetate cards are hard to photograph, so don't feel bad, we can still see the card is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteI dont think Accetate likes the camera whatever you try and do!!You can see yours on your photo tho!!!Grrr its a nightmare accetate...
I even have to `Polish`!!!Yep polish it when I`v finished with accetate the amount of finger prints I get on it are unbelieveable!!!
Maybe I should invest in some fine gloves!!!lol..

Oh I have not had any better luck photographing my acetate cards! Maybe that is why I don't make very many! I love yours (what I can see anyway..haha!)

ReplyDeleteWell at least we can still see that your card is wonderful, even with a little glare/reflection. I think my photo turned out ok, but I can't tell you that I did anything different from your attempts. I had some light overhead, and almost coming from behind the card. It looks like you have the entire card made from the acetate - if so, that might be affecting it as well. Nonetheless, it's beautiful :)

ReplyDeleteFor acetate or clear items I try to photograph in bright, natural light...like outside. And I try to have a "busy" background like my plants or my brick walkway. And I TRY to keep my reflection OUT of the acetate! LOL If you look on my blog I do have a lot of acrylic projects...or check at www.mosdinc.blogspot.com to see them. Some work well, others not so much. All of us that DT have issues with it too!

ReplyDeleteHi Ann! Your picture is not bad at all!! I was expecting something much, much worse from your comments on the main page! This is a good picture for acetate - no glare at all! I love the nesties and how they look embedded and the sentiment in the bottom corner - beautiful card!!
ReplyDeleteGreat card! I guess the transparency does it's job since you can't get a picture of it! LOL! I made one, that will be posted on my blog tomorrow, and I took it's picture on a white background with the sun behind it so it sort of had a shadow... make sense?! You can see a better picture tomorrow! Other then that no great tips here! LOL! Good luck next time too!

ReplyDeleteThe easy part is making the card...the hard part is photographing it. As you saw I had a hard time too. I like Gloria's advice to take it outside and use natural light. I'm going to try that next time.
